Our story so far

At the start of December 2021, Riverside and One Housing entered a new era, forming a partnership which has seen One Housing Group join The Riverside Group as a subsidiary.

This followed a six-week consultation process which asked for customers’ views on the proposal for the two organisations to join forces, based on a series of pledges outlining how we will be better and stronger together and can do more for the customers and communities we serve.

Customers of both organisations were sent an 8 page document providing more information about the proposals and were offered the chance to give their views.

Respondents submitted both comments on the proposal and an answer to the question: “What are your views on One Housing becoming part of The Riverside Group?”

We had an excellent response with 3,632 people taking part. Thank you to all customers who responded.

The results showed that, overall, four times as many customers who expressed a view either way, were in favour as were against.

The results and responses were shared with our Joint Customer Advisory Panel (JCAP), the group of customers from both organisations covering a range of tenure types who helped to guide the process.

Along with detailed information about the case for coming together, the consultation responses were then presented to the Boards of both organisation on November 10 for a decision on whether to proceed.

Both boards agreed and now, following final registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), from the start of December One Housing Group has become a subsidiary of The Riverside Group.

What happens now?

Over the next two years, One Housing Group will operate as a subsidiary of The

Riverside Group.

Services to One Housing customers will continue as normal, with all functions being carried out in the same way. Customers of One Housing should continue to use the same methods for all issues such as reporting repairs and other issues, paying rent and service charges and raising other queries.

For Riverside customers, there will also be no change .

Creating one organisation

Over the next two years, the teams at Riverside and One Housing will work together to look at all aspects of our operations and how we can form one, integrated organisation. Throughout this period, we will involve customers in helping to shape services and will keep you updated on progress. Here are the pledges that we are working to:

All the comments and feedback offered as part of the consultation has been anonymously recorded, and will guide our improvement work in the years ahead. We will work with customers to make these changes a reality. We plan for One Housing to join the Riverside Group in December. Customers will not notice any major changes – rents, service charges and our regeneration commitments will be completely unaffected by the partnership and any future rent

increases will be in line with Government guidelines. Local services will still be delivered by the same teams. As integration continues, we will continue to work with customers in laying out how services will improve and how additional money will be spent.

The aim is to form one, fully-merged organisation by December 2023.

The future

The Riverside Group is growing and in December 2021, formed a complementary partnership with One Housing. The enlarged Group owns just over 75,000 homes, putting us in the top 5 English housing association groups by size, and making us the country’s largest housing association provider of supported housing. For the next two years, One Housing will operate as a subsidiary of Riverside. During that period, they will continue to operate within the Group as a separate legal entity.

Over the next two years, the teams at Riverside and One Housing will work together to look at all aspects of our operations with a view to forming a single, integrated organisation. Throughout this period, we will involve customers in helping to shape services and keep them updated of progress.

We will also work towards creating a new corporate plan for the whole group for the period 2023 to 2026
