Responding to the recent statement from Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, on building safety, Richard Hill, Chief Executive Officer, One Housing stated:

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and One Housing welcomed the Secretary of State’s statement on building safety. Alongside our stakeholders, we have consistently called for leaseholders to be protected from the costs of making sure their homes are safe.

"We agree that those responsible for causing the building safety crisis must be the ones that meet the cost of fixing affected buildings.  To date not one of our residents has had to pay for essential cladding remediation works. We continue to actively pursue developers and contractors to recover costs associated with cladding remediation work, and we are also applying for Building Safety Funding on behalf of our residents.

"We stand alongside our partners in the G15 in saying we require a complete solution for the wider building safety crisis. We will to continue to prioritize the safety of our homes, but to ensure housing associations can continue to build the affordable homes that are needed, as well as investing in existing homes and services for our residents, a truly comprehensive solution to this crisis is still required.”
